DNS Resolution Process

DNS resolution is the process of translating IP addresses to domain names. The local device asks the ISP. The ISP will then ask the root server. If the root server doesn't know it will tell the ISP which TLD to ask based on whether the domain ends in .UK, .com etc. The ISP will then ask the TLD for example Nominet if it knows the domain and the TLD will either let ISP know or direct it to the nameserver IP addresses. The ISP will then ask the nameserver if it knows the domain and the nameserver will tell the ISP what server the domain is located on. The ISP will then tell the local device the A record it has found. Then the local device will as the webserver for the domain and if the webserver can find the domain it will load the default folder with the index page to the local device.
